What to bring

Applicants are required to present two (2) valid government-issued identification documents. Please ensure you bring both the original documents and a copy of each.

Primary Identification (one required)

The following may be accepted as primary identification:

• Driver’s licence issued by a Canadian province or territory
• Foreign driver’s licence
• Canadian passport
• Foreign passport
• Canadian citizenship card
• Canadian permanent resident card
• Certificate of Indian Status
• Student identification card issued by a foreign institution
• Firearms possession certificate
• Firearms acquisition certificate
• Record of Landing
• Canadian National Institute of the Blind (CNIB) identification card
• Federal, provincial, or municipal identification card
• Military family identification card
• Work permit or study permit issued to a foreign national

Secondary Identification (one required)

The following may be accepted as secondary identification:

• Birth certificate
• Baptismal certificate
• Marriage certificate
• Hunting licence
• Fishing licence
• Hospital card
• Immigration documents
• Union membership card
• Private industry employee identification card

Important Notes (RCMP Requirements)

• SIN cards, health cards, and credit cards are not accepted as valid identification.
• Only original identification documents are accepted. Certified copies may be used for secondary identification only.

• All identification must be current and not expired.

• At least one of the two identification documents must include the applicant’s photograph and signature, as required by the RCMP
